What SEER2 Actually Measures

SEER2 is the system’s seasonal cooling efficiency: total cooling delivered divided by total electricity consumed, tested under conditions closer to real homes than the old SEER standard. Higher means fewer kilowatt-hours for the same cooling. The federal minimum for our region is now 14.3 SEER2 (equivalent to about 15 SEER under the old scale), and residential systems run up past 20.
